Salary Range:$107,700 - $143,600

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position investigates high-profile cases and manages the entire investigative process across the department. This position also manages special investigations such as employment background investigations, internal affairs, compliance investigations and provides executive protection to senior leadership. This is to ensure every criminal case can be successfully prosecuted, and the BNSF brand can be protected while ensuring due process for all involved.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all criminal investigations.
  • Complete all pre-employment background investigations for sworn personnel.
  • Support the Compliance Department in investigations with a possible criminal nexus.
  • Conduct all Internal Affairs investigations involving the use of force that could result in serious bodily injury or death and/or complaints of significant misconduct.
  • Provide executive protection to senior leadership as appropriate due to threat and risk.
  • Conduct risk analysis for international travel for BNSF employees and manage contractor support for foreign trips of executives.
  • Obtain and maintain accreditation certifications for the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years of supervisory experience including leading criminal investigations to include cases classification, measuring outcomes and investigators' performance.
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership experience.
  • Structured data analytics experience for conducting risk analysis.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks at once while under time and performance pressures.
  • Must be able to make sound decisions and solve complex business problems.
  • Must have satisfactorily completed basic police training at a recognized state certified academy.
  • Must meet peace officer commissioning standards in state in which this job is posted and be commissioned as such.
  • Must maintain all required training standards.
  • Must meet BNSF Railway Resource Protection Team standards for employment.
  • Possess or able to obtain a valid statedriver's license.
  • Must be willing and able to travel as required.
  • Must possess a broad knowledge of criminal laws and procedures.
  • Must be computer literate and have a desire to continue training and education within the police and railroad profession.
  • Must have the ability and desire to meet any government or railroad standard.
  • Must have the ability to successfully communicate and lead people, often in a stressful critical-event environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree strongly preferred.
  • Masters degree is a plus.
  • Successful completion of senior police professional development courses (i.e. FBI National Academy, Senior Management Institute for Police, Southern Police Institute, Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, etc) preferred.
