We need an experienced Geospatial Data Scientist to work on all stages of the data science pipeline, to include applying existing machine learning software across large hyperparameter trade spaces, developing new machine learning algorithms and evaluating the best the commercial AI/ML industry has to offer to our problem set.

What would you be doing?

  • Contribute to multi-discipline AI/ML teams in the creation of machine learning models and their supporting technologies

  • Perform end-to-end data analytical tasks that include but not limited to ETL, mathematics and modeling, data engineering, visualization and storytelling, and platform integration

  • Advise Maxar and the project manager on the strengths and weaknesses of various technical approaches related to image science and AI/ML

  • Generate sprint-style projections and risk assessments for AI/ML deliveries

  • Apply signal and image processing concepts and methods to improve synthetic training data utility and ATR performance

  • Apply and extend advanced machine learning methods for modeling patterns in geospatial trajectories (e.g., GPS tracks), text, images, and videos.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be US Citizen

  • Must have a current/active TS/SCI and be willing and able to obtain a CI Polygraph

  • B.S. in Data Science, Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Geography or related field

  • Ability to perform research and development of novel and advanced geospatial machine learning approaches. Examples include spatial trajectory clustering and classification, image object detection, and graph analytics.

  • Ability to develop and exercise computer algorithms to quantify performance of imaging systems as a function of key parameters and organize results in clear presentations.

  • 3 years of experience as a professional data scientist or related role

  • 3 years of experience with the Python data science stack (e.g., numpy, pandas, matplotlib, sklearn, etc.)

  • 3 years of experience solving image science and/or geospatial problems for commercial or government clients

  • Regular travel to Herndon, VA or on-site SCIF at least 3 times a week or as required by manager

  • Capability to work effectively in a geographically distributed development team

  • Occasional local travel (DC Capital Region) to government sites for customer meetings and demonstrations

Desired Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience as a professional data scientist or related role

  • 4+ years of experience with the Python data science stack (e.g., numpy, pandas, matplotlib, sklearn, etc.)

  • 3+ years of experience briefing government clients in the Defense and Intelligence communities

  • 4+ years of experience solving image science and/or geospatial problems for commercial or government clients

  • Experience with Linux command line tools

  • Experience using Docker for packaging and delivering data science capabilities

  • Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS.

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate's unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$108,000.00 - $180,000.00 annually.


Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
